Merrick I. Ross, MD, earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois Affiliated Hospitals. He was Administrative chief resident for the University of Illinois Department of Surgery from 1987 to 1988. Dr Ross held fellowships at both the Scripps Clinic and Research Institute, La Jolla, California, and the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. He joined the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center faculty in 1989 and is currently professor of surgery and Chief of the Melanoma Section.
In addition to being well published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, Dr Ross has served on editorial boards for the Annals of Surgical Oncology, the Journal of Surgical Oncology, and Revista de Investigacion de Cancerlogia de Mexico. He is also a journal reviewer for Archives of Surgery. He was principal investigator for several melanoma trials and was a recipient of the National Institutes of Health Training Grants. He recently received the Charles M. McBride Distinguished Professorship in Surgical Oncology. Dr Ross is board certified by both the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Surgery.
